If you have sound issues with earbuds that have a removable cable, the first step is to try them in a different player that is known to be working. If the problem is present in only one player, it is likely to be in the player or its settings, not the headphones.
Follow these steps in order:
1. Make sure the jack is fully inserted
Sometimes a plug does not go in all the way. A case or case edge can stop a plug from fitting fully. Push the plug in firmly to be sure it is seated.
2. Check the socket for lint or debris
Dirt or dust can block the connection. Use canned air to blow out the socket gently.
3. Check the balance settings on the player
Make sure the audio balance is not set too far to the left or right.
4. Plug a different pair of headphones into the player
- If the other headphones work, the problem is with the original headphones.
- If the other headphones also have no sound, the issue is with the player.
5. Is the issue on one side only or both sides?
- If one side only, continue with Step 6.
- If both sides have low or no sound, test again using a different cable.
6. If one side only — swap the earbud connections
Swap the two earbuds' connections (left and right) on the connector. After swapping, does the issue follow the cable end or the earbud?
If the issue follows the cable end
(The same side still has the issue no matter which earbud is used)
- Remove the toothed washer on the connector using tweezers or a small flat screwdriver.
- After removing, test again.
- If the problem still occurs on multiple players, the cable needs to be replaced.
If the issue follows the earbud
(The same earbud always has the issue, no matter which cable is used)
- Remove and clean the ear tip and the nozzle.
- Reassemble and test again.
- If there is still a problem, the affected earbud needs to be replaced.
