MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 earbuds have a splash resistant design for all weather conditions.

They have been successfully tested to meet IP54* standards, which means they are splash resistant and can be used in the rain. However, they are not meant to be submerged under water, worn in the shower, or rinsed under running water. Wetted earbuds should be dried up with cloth before docking back to charging case.

The charging case itself is not tested for waterproofness.

The earbuds were tested under controlled laboratory conditions. The earbuds are splash resistant for non-water sports and exercise. Splash resistance might decrease because of normal use. Do not charge wet earbuds. The charging case is not splash resistant.

For a wider, more spatial listening experience, the earbuds instead offer 3D immersive audio with Dolby Atmos, including head tracking, which places the sound around you rather than simply blending the left and right channels.

The equalizer puts you in the driver's seat: you adjust eight frequency bands yourself, boosting or lowering them until the sound matches what you're after. It's direct and effective, but it does assume you know which frequencies to reach for.

Sound Personalization takes a different approach and is our recommended choice. You don't need any technical knowledge at all. Instead, you go through a guided listening test: you listen to a music track and add instruments to your liking, and from your choices the system builds an understanding of your personal taste and hearing preferences.

The key technical difference is what happens with that understanding. Sound Personalization doesn't just set an EQ curve, it also applies a multiband audio compander, which shapes the dynamics of the sound across different frequency ranges. This level of individualisation simply can't be reached with EQ settings alone, which is why we recommend starting here.

Both features were developed based on extensive research in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, and both store their settings inside the earbuds, so your personalised sound is available with any music source. You can of course use them together: Sound Personalization as your tailored foundation, and the EQ for any further fine-tuning to taste.

MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 supports the following Bluetooth codecs: SBC, AAC, aptX™ Standard and aptX™ Adaptive, which includes lossless and high-resolution wireless audio transmission. Advanced audio codecs (like AAC and aptX™) provide hi-fi audio allowing you to enjoy the rich uncompromised listening experience you expect.

The preferred audio codec choice can be selected in the Smart Control Plus app by the “Audio Priority Mode”.

In the device settings menu of the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app you can select between different audio priority modes:

• Robust connection - High-quality audio codecs are used like SBC, AAC
• Advanced sound quality - Advanced Audio codecs are used like aptX Adaptive
• Hi-Res – High resolution audio codec up to 24bit / 96kHz audio resolution
• Lossless – Bit-by-bit exact wireless transmission with 16bit/ 44.1kHz audio resolution

The audio mode “Robust Connection” delivers already a high-quality audio experience with support for SBC and AAC, which is compatible with most audio sources. Please consider that this mode provides the most robust wireless audio transmission, so select this mode for general listening or when you are in high interference situations like crowded public places.

It is recommended to enable the advanced audio resolution modes “High-Resolution” and “Lossless” only when you intend to enjoy the sound performance down to the last detail.

When activated, either the “High-Resolution” or “Lossless” mode gets defined as the preferred mode. To ensure a seamless audio experience without any dropouts, the device adaptively might decide to scale down to aptX Adaptive again if the Bluetooth connection is not stable enough. Which codec and audio resolution are used can be checked in the Smart Control Plus app in the settings menu at item “Codec”.

Both are Qualcomm Bluetooth codecs designed to deliver higher quality audio than the standard SBC and AAC codecs, but they take different approaches.

aptX HD is the older of the two. It transmits at a fixed bit rate of around 576 kbps, supporting resolution up to 24 bit / 48 kHz. Because the bitrate is fixed, it always aims to deliver the same quality regardless of conditions. That works well in a clean radio environment, but in busy or interference-heavy surroundings a fixed high bitrate can lead to dropouts.

aptX Adaptive is the newer, more flexible successor. It dynamically adjusts its bitrate in real time based on the wireless environment and the type of content you're playing: scaling up for maximum quality when conditions allow and scaling down to protect connection stability when they don't. It also supports higher resolution, up to 24 bit / 96 kHz, and offers significantly lower latency, which matters for video and gaming.

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 supports aptX Adaptive, not aptX HD. This isn't a limitation:

aptX Adaptive is the direct successor and delivers everything aptX HD offered and more, with higher resolution, lower latency, and an intelligently adapting connection. On top of that, you can enable either the 24 bit / 96 kHz high-resolution option or aptX Lossless for bit-for-bit lossless quality, both of which go beyond what aptX HD is capable of.

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 no longer needs a separate "Low Latency" mode because low latency is now handled through the aptX Adaptive codec itself. When the source device decides that low latency is needed, for example when you are gaming, the earbuds automatically switch into the aptX Adaptive low latency mode. There is no dedicated mode to select, so you get the latency benefit automatically on compatible devices.

For video watching, lip-sync is ensured automatically through delay compensation supported by the Bluetooth A2DP standard. The earbuds report their audio latency to the source device, which then applies a short video buffer to bring the audio and picture back into sync. The result is that sound and video stay aligned without any manual setup.

Yes, the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 lets you enjoy Dolby Atmos with any audio source, working in two ways depending on what you're listening to: With Dolby Atmos-enabled content and source devices, the 3D audio is rendered on the source side using the original multi-channel information, giving you the best Dolby Atmos experience.

With all other sources, Dolby Atmos creates a virtualised 3D sound directly in the earbuds, transforming the stereo stream to the earbuds into immersive 3D Atmos audio.

In both modes, head tracking works, so the sound stays anchored around you and adjusts naturally as you move your head, keeping you at the centre of the experience. The headtracking feature is optional and can be enabled/disabled with the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app.

Apple iPhone treats non-AirPods headphones differently by default. For Apple's own headphones (AirPods, Beats), Dolby Atmos plays automatically, but with default settings, third-party headphones only receive a stereo mix. You must switch the setting to "Always On" so non-Apple headphones play Dolby Atmos correctly.

1. Make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version.
2. Go to Settings Apps Music.
3. Tap Dolby Atmos.
4. Choose Always On (not Automatic).

The reason "Always On" matters: "Automatic" only plays Dolby Atmos when connected to compatible Apple headphones like AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max, or to compatible speakers/receivers. "Always On" plays Dolby Atmos on any headphones or speakers. So, with "Automatic" selected, your MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 would default to a stereo mix; "Always On" forces Dolby Atmos through.

This Settings path applies to Apple Music. This setting only applies to Spatial Audio Dolby Atmos tracks in Apple Music. Other streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, etc.) manage Atmos within their own apps.

Lossless audio delivers basically the ultimate sound quality, the wireless audio transmission is mathematically bit-by-bit exact, so as a listener you do not need to be concerned to miss any details of the original audio content. The audio resolution for the wireless lossless transmission is 44.1kHz and 16bit, the same quality as on a CD (compact disc).

In order to enjoy the “Lossless” audio quality, the audio source needs to support it as well, since this format is not a Bluetooth standard.

Ensure the following:

• The smartphone or audio source needs to be Snapdragon Sound certified
• The smartphone or audio source needs to support aptX™ Adaptive Lossless

Note that Qi wireless charging takes longer than charging via USB-C, so use the USB-C cable when you need power fast. For a full charge, the earbuds need approximately 1.5 hours, giving you up to 12 hours of playtime per earbud and 40 hours in total with the charging case.

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 has integrated power-saving features. When the earbuds are disconnected from a Bluetooth source and not in use, they can be configured to switch off automatically.

The duration until earbuds get switched off automatically can be customised by the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app, by default it is set to “never”.

To turn the earphones on again, press one of the touch pads or place them for a brief time into the charging case.

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is certified for Qi wireless charging as a convenient charging option. When charging wirelessly, please note the following:

• Charge only with Qi certified wireless charging pads.

• SBC and AAC serve as the standard codecs, ensuring broad compatibility across virtually all Bluetooth devices, including iPhones.
• aptX Adaptive is the advanced codec, delivering higher-quality, more efficient wireless audio on compatible devices.

Within aptX Adaptive, you can enable one of two options depending on your priority:

• A 24 bit / 96 kHz high-resolution option for maximum detail and resolution.
• An aptX Lossless option for bit-for-bit lossless audio quality.

In addition, support for the LE Audio LC3 codec will be added in the future via a firmware upgrade, bringing the benefits of the latest Bluetooth Low Energy Audio standard, such as Auracast.

You can pair MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 with up to six different Bluetooth devices. The earbuds store and remember these pairings.
