The type of wireless signal and the environment both affect the transmission range.
Range by signal type
- Infrared (IR): Requires a clear line of sight. Range of approximately 10 meters.
- Radio Frequency (RF) and Digital RF: Range of approximately 100 meters, limited by environmental factors.
Factors that reduce range
- Obstacles: Walls, metal, glass, and large objects can block or weaken signals. Digital RF is more affected than standard RF.
- Interference: Other wireless devices (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, other RF gear) can reduce range.
- Battery level: A low battery can reduce performance.
Tips for better range
- For RF systems, place the transmitter in a central, elevated position away from metal objects.
- For Digital RF systems, keep at least 2 meters between the transmitter and any routers.
- Turn off or move other wireless devices to reduce interference.
- Move closer to the transmitter if you experience dropouts.
