Operation
Yes. The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 features customizable touch controls, so you can define your own preferred way of managing audio, calls, and voice assistants such as Google Assistant or Apple Siri.
The left and right earbuds can each carry different control assignments, and you can adjust them easily in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app. This lets you set up the earbuds exactly the way that feels most natural to you.
If you'd rather not customise anything, the default touch controls are designed to be intuitive out of the box, giving you straightforward control over music, phone calls, and voice assistance right from the start.
Yes. The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 lets you use the left or right earbud on its own, so you're not tied to wearing both at once.
This comes in handy in plenty of situations, for example when you want to stay aware of your surroundings while still taking an important call, or when you need to charge one earbud while continuing to listen or talk on the other. You can dynamically decide whether you want to use both earbuds or only one.
Yes. The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 has a feature called Smart Pause, which automatically pauses your music when you take an earbud out and resumes playback when you put it back in.
Smart Pause is enabled by default. If you'd prefer to turn it off, you can disable it anytime in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app.
No. The touch panel sensitivity of the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 remains the same as on the MOMENTUM True Wireless 4, keeping the same fast, responsive touch control you're already familiar with for quick, reliable input every time you tap.
Users can activate a preferred voice assistant such as Google Assistant or Apple Siri by a convenient tap gesture on the earbud. The voice assistant selection depends on the specific smartphone configuration. Via the Sennheiser Smart Control app, the user can customise this control to use any touch gesture for voice assistant selection or, if preferred, can disable voice assistant access.
You can adjust the volume of the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 either from the earbuds or from your source device: On the earbuds: tap and hold the touchpad of the right earbud to increase the volume, and the left earbud to decrease it. A voice prompt tells you when you reach "Volume max".
On your source device: use your phone's or computer's volume control as normal. On smartphones with absolute volume control, such as iPhones and most Android phones, the earbuds and phone share a single volume level, so adjusting either gives the same result. On some other Bluetooth sources, the two controls are independent, so you may need to raise both.
If it still isn't loud enough, check the fit first. A poor seal is the most common reason for low perceived volume. Try the different ear adapter sizes in the box until you find one that seals your ear canal completely and run the earbud fitting test in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app to confirm. You can also check your EQ settings, since lowered frequency bands reduce perceived loudness.
For a more comfortable listening level, the Smart Control Plus app lets you fine-tune the sound rather than simply turning it up. Sound Personalisation and the built-in EQ can bring out detail and clarity at lower volumes, which is a healthier way to listen over long periods than raising the level.
The Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app is available in the Android Play Store and iOS App Store.

ANC and Transparency
No matter how busy or noisy the environment is, Sennheiser’s next-generation Adaptive ANC seamlessly adapts to ensure that every beat and captivating nuance can be heard. The advanced system utilises four microphones to continually monitor ambient noise levels and automatically optimise the level of noise cancellation performance to ensure a truly immersive experience.
When it is necessary to hear your surroundings or have a conversation, Transparency Mode brings the world back at a touch. The level of Transparency is even adjustable.
You can switch between ANC and Transparency Mode either by touch gesture or in the Smart Control Plus app.
The default touch gesture is a single tap on the left earbud, which toggles directly between ANC and Transparency Mode. Since the touch controls are customisable, you can reassign this to suit your preference in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app.
The app also gives you deeper control over how each mode behaves, for example enabling Adaptive Anti-Wind mode, adjusting transparency gain, or switching on automatic transparency during calls.
The newly designed eartips of the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 use an improved silicone-based material with better passive attenuation, meaning more ambient noise is blocked out before it ever reaches your ear. This contributes especially to perceived noise attenuation at higher frequencies above 1 kHz, the range where active noise cancellation naturally reaches its limits, so the eartips and the Adaptive ANC complement each other across the full frequency spectrum.
The design also makes it easier to achieve a good seal in the ear canal. This matters because a proper seal is the foundation for both great sound and effective noise cancellation: it preserves the low frequencies that give your music body and depth, and it gives the Adaptive ANC the acoustic conditions it needs to work at its best. The result is that excellent sound and isolation are easier to reach for more people, without having to hunt for the perfect fit.
As always, choosing the ear adapter size that fits your ears best gives the best result. You can check your seal with the earbud fitting test in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app.
When using ANC or Transparency Mode outdoors in stormy weather conditions or when cycling, wind noise may have impact on the listening experience. As MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 has been designed to be portable it utilises small microphones which, due to their compact nature, can’t also be optimised for certain strong wind situations. Under wind conditions, it is recommended to enable the “Anti-Wind” mode within the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app.
Yes. You can switch ANC off completely, either in the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app or directly from the earbuds.
In the app, you can select between ANC, Transparency Mode, and ANC off. On the earbuds, you can assign the mode switching to one of the touch gestures, so you can control ANC without reaching for your phone. Since the touch controls are fully customisable, you can set this up exactly the way that suits you.
Turning ANC off is useful when you're in a quiet environment and simply want to listen without any processing, and it also helps conserve battery life.
The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5's Natural Transparency mode is designed to relay the world around you as cleanly and true-to-life as possible, so voices sound like voices and streets sound like streets. Three factors make it feel natural:
- Ultra-low-noise microphones: Capture your surroundings with minimal self-noise, so the sound passed through is clean rather than hissy or artificial.
- Ultra-low latency: External sound reaches your ears almost instantly, with no distracting delay between what's happening around you and what you hear.
- Frequency range matched to natural listening: The transparency processing covers a frequency range that mirrors how you'd hear the world without the earbuds in, so nothing sounds thin or coloured.
- Reduced occlusion effect: A pressure compensation in the ear reduces the "plugged-up" sensation you normally get with in-ears, so your own voice sounds more natural when you speak.
Together, these let the outside world come through cleanly and naturally—so you stay aware of your surroundings without feeling like you've got earbuds in at all.
Phone Calls
If you find that your voice can’t be heard well by the other party on a phone call, you may wish to check the following: During phone calls, ensure that the earbuds are inserted correctly into the ear canal and then rotate them slightly. Ideally rotate the earbud to ensure the correct beamforming angle for voice pickup (i.e. both outside microphone holes are in line to the mouth).
Please also check that the microphone openings are not blocked by the ear itself. It is recommended to use the correct ear adapter size to form a perfect seal within the ear canal for an optimal call quality experience in noisy environments. This ensures better noise reduction performance by the 4th microphone of the earbuds.
In very noisy environment it is recommended to deactivate the “Transparency during Calls” feature, which might introduce some of the outside noise into the call.
Additionally, wind may impact the quality of the phone call.
The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 uses four microphones per earbud to capture your voice clearly on calls:
- Two outer microphones form a beamformer that focuses on your voice and helps separate it from surrounding noise.
- One microphone in the nozzle adds further voice pickup.
- One voice accelerometer (bone-conduction mic) reads the vibrations of the earbud triggered by your own voice to identify your voice specifically, so the earbuds know which sound is you, even in noisy environments.
On top of this microphone array, Sennheiser's AI-powered voice isolation lifts your voice above background noise, so you always come across close and clear—whether you're on a busy street or a train platform.
Yes, the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 delivers clearly improved call quality over its predecessor, thanks to several key upgrades:
- Additional voice accelerometer (bone-conduction mic): a new sensor reads the vibrations of the earbud triggered by your own voice, so the earbuds can identify your voice specifically and separate it from surrounding noise.
- Better mechanical wind noise reduction: an improved design reduces wind noise before it even reaches the microphones, keeping your voice clear outdoors.
- Much improved AI-powered voice isolation: significantly enhanced processing lifts your voice above background noise more effectively than before.
- Super-wideband calls: a wider audio bandwidth captures more of your voice's natural detail, making calls sound fuller and more lifelike than standard narrowband or wideband calling.
Together, these upgrades mean you come across closer and clearer on calls than with the MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 - even on busy streets, windy days, or noisy platforms.
Yes. The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 uses AI-powered voice isolation for calls. The AI separates your voice from background noise using neural learning algorithms, trained to recognise the sound of speech and filter out everything else.
The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 supports super-wideband calls, which capture a wider audio bandwidth than standard narrowband or wideband calling. This means your voice comes through fuller and more naturally than the "telephone quality" people often associate with Bluetooth calls.
Whether you get super-wideband quality in a specific app such as Microsoft Teams or Discord depends on whether that app and your device support a compatible super-wideband call mode over Bluetooth. When the full chain (earbuds, device, and app) supports it, calls benefit from the wider bandwidth. If an app or platform falls back to a narrower call mode, quality is limited by that mode rather than by the earbuds.
